Police cited a 36-year-old Bridgeport man for trespassing Monday night after he stumbled, drunk, into a Richmond Hill Road home while trying to locate his car.
At about 6:07 p.m. on Jan. 4, officers were dispatched to a residence on Richmond Hill Road on a report of an unwanted male, according to a police report.
There, police heard from a homeowner who had seen the Bridgeport man inside the home and start coming up the stairs to the second floor, the report said. The man appeared to have entered through an unlocked kitchen door, the report said.
The homeowner confronted the drunk man and detained him in a dining room while calling 9-1-1, the report said. Eventually he ran out the back of the home and police took him into custody in the Walgreens parking lot, the report said.
Police said that the man had been drinking at a bar in the area and was trying to find his car, and he “entered the residence attempting to gain assistance in locating his parked vehicle.”
“The New Canaan Police remind all residents to secure their homes and activate their security systems,” police said.
