Police on Wednesday arrested a 31-year-old New Canaan man following a domestic dispute.

At about 12 p.m. on Dec. 26, officers were dispatched to an apartment complex on Lakeview Avenue on a report of a domestic dispute between two occupants of a residence there, police said.

Following an investigation, they charged the man with disorderly conduct and third-degree criminal mischief.

It in’t clear what property the arrested man damaged during the dispute. Police withheld details, calling it a domestic matter.

A person is guilty of third-degree criminal mischief, under state law, if he or she “intentionally or recklessly damages tangible property of another, or tampers with tangible property of another and thereby causes such property to be placed in danger of damage” or “damages tangible property of another by negligence involving the use of any potentially harmful or destructive force or substance, including, but not limited to, fire, explosives, flood, avalanche, collapse of building, poison gas or radioactive material.

The man was released after promising to appear Thursday in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
