Police after midnight Sunday arrested a 26-year-old Trumbull woman for assault after spotting a bloody lip during a traffic stop.

At about 12:41 a.m. on July 2, officers working at a DUI checkpoint noticed that the driver of a vehicle had bloody teeth as well as a bloody lip, according to a police report.

It isn’t clear where the checkpoint was located.

Police inquired about the injuries and came to find that the Trumbull woman had struck the driver in the mouth, the report said.

They charged her with third-degree assault.

It isn’t clear whether the victim was male or female, what was his or her age, whether or how he or she was related to the arrested woman, whether they’d been arguing or what prompted the 26-year-old to strike the victim. Police withheld further information, classifying the incident as a domestic matter.

Police released the woman after she promised to appear Monday in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
