A 42-year-old taxi driver in town faces misdemeanor charges after screaming obscenities at waitresses in a diner on Forest Street on Monday morning and then attacking a worker up the street, police said.
At about 9:39 a.m. on Jan. 11, the Jamaica, N.Y. resident entered the diner, where he’s a regular, and ordered his usual breakfast, according to a police report.
The staff there typically is made nervous by the man’s unusual behavior, the report said, though he’s never caused a serious problem before.
Yet on this day he began using obscenities and yelling and caused at least one customer to leave the diner in fear, the report said. Told to leave and not return, the man walked to Main Street and began yelling at a worker outside of Gates Restaurant, which is under construction, the report said. Then the man began swinging his fists and attacking the worker, the report said. (That individual suffered no serious injuries.)
Police eventually tracked down the man at the train station, where he works, and charged him with breach of peace and disorderly conduct.
