Police on Sunday night arrested a 32-year-old Orlando, Fla. man in connection with a break-in at the New Canaan Historical Society.
At about 6:27 p.m. on March 25, officers were dispatched to the God’s Acre organization’s campus on a report that someone had just broken into a building, police said.
There, officers found the man walking down Main Street holding an umbrella, rock and stick, according to a police report.
The witness identified him as the person seen leaving the Historical Society, the report said. The building wasn’t open to the public at the time and the man had activated its burglar alarm, it said. The Historical Society is closed Sunday and Monday.
The man refused to talk to police about his involvement, the report said.
He was charged with third-degree burglary, held on $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear March 26 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
The Historical Society on Monday issued a bulletin saying that the man had broken into its Rogers Studio. Nothing was broken, officials said, and the man was homeless and seeking a place to sleep.
Is he the same man who hangs around the library every day?
