Police on Tuesday arrested a 24-year-old New York City man by warrant after he contacted the department to reclaim a lost duffel bag with drugs in it.
He was charged with possession of narcotics and cited for possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana.
At about 11:12 a.m. on Jan. 1, a citizen came upon a green duffel bag at the Elm Street Train Station parking lot and turned it in to police. Officers searched the bag and found “numerous items including marijuana and cocaine,” according to a police report.
The following day, a man contacted police and asked whether his lost bag had been recovered and turned in, the report said. Police—who at that point had identified the man though they hadn’t found a way to contact him—said that yes, the bag had been found, according to Lt. Jason Ferraro, the department’s public information officer. The man came to headquarters the next day, Jan. 2, the report said.
Police obtained an arrest warrant for the above charges and at about 7:29 p.m. on Jan. 26, the New York City man turned himself in, the report said.
He was released on $1,000 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 12 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
