Norwalk Men Charged in Counterfeit Check Scheme

Police on Sunday night arrested a 20-year-old Norwalk man by warrant and charged him with second-degree forgery, a felony offense, as well as third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and conspiracy.

He’s the second person charged in connection with a fake check scheme. Police arrested a 23-year-old Norwalk man by warrant last Wednesday on the same charges. 

Following a complaint, investigators determined that they were involved in creating counterfeit checks and then cashing them in other people’s bank accounts, according to a a police report.

On Feb. 26 the two men, along with a third individual, deposited a counterfeit check in the amount of about $5,000 into a bank account, then made a withdrawal in approximately the same amount the following day, the report said.

Police obtained an arrest warrant and the 20-year-old surrendered Sept. 16. He was released on $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear Oct. 1 in state Superior Court in Norwalk. The 23-year-old was held on $5,000 and appeared Sept. 13.
