Here’s a fun exchange we saw between two of New Canaan’s highest elected officials on Tuesday.
New Canaanites know that Selectman Nick Williams commutes to New York City for work.
The Board of Selectmen at its regular monthly meeting—held in the police department’s training room while Town Hall undergoes its renovation—faced a vote on whether to approve a few thousand dollars to upgrade parking meters for the town’s rail commuters who park at the station (as opposed to racing across Park and Elm Streets, often risking life and limb). (The wireless technology itself got a huge endorsement during the meeting from Karen Miller, supervisor of the New Canaan Parking Bureau.)
First Selectman Rob Mallozzi turned to Williams: “Nick, you are a commuter. You want to move item number two?”
Williams responded with a smile: “I would be delighted to, Mr. Selectman.”
And Mallozzi laughed and said: “Mr. Commuter.”
It passed unanimously.
