The Caimans attended the CT Age Group Championships March 12-15 at Weselyan University. At this meet, the New Canaan YMCA Caimans 10/Under Girls Team had the highest point total, and were named State Champions.
Members of the 10/Under 200 and 400 Freestyle and Medley relays included: Julia Cassone, Elisabeth Xia, Kaylana Couture, and Hutton Saunders. The team won all four relay events, and broke team records on the 400 free, 200 medley, and 400 medley. Cassone was also named Age Group Individual Champion in the 10/Under 50 Free.
Catherine Steinberg, who last year broke the 9-10 girls 50 Backstroke record at this event, continued her success by breaking the team record for the Girls 11-12 50 Backstroke. The old record had been held since 1997.
“We have some amazing young swimmers who have already accomplished so much. The coaches and swimmers worked very hard to be the best they could for championships and it paid off, “said Y’s Director of Competitive Swimming, Michael Ferraro. He added, “The future looks so bright for the Caimans.”
The Caimans swimmers continue to work hard as Cassone, Couture, and Steinberg will be joined by teammates Bennett Ehret and Michael Kotlyar in representing Connecticut in the Eastern Zone SC Age Group Championships March 26-28 in Rochester, NY.
