A New Canaan teen was arrested on a misdemeanor charge after admitting to police that she’d driven her car into a parked 2013 BMW on Elm Street, and then left the scene.
The 16-year-old girl at about 9 p.m. on Feb. 28 turned herself in after driving a 2005 Ford station wagon into the parked BMW in the area of 73 Elm St. (just before the mid-block crosswalk up by the movie theater), according to police. Her from bumper suffered some damage, as did the BMW’s left rear fender, police said.
A man who saw it happen asked the girl—a Forest Street resident who had other teens in the car with her—whether she and her passengers were OK, according to a police report.
The teen said she was and asked whether the BMW was his, police said. It wasn’t, and as he was walked toward a nearby restaurant to try and find the car’s owner, the teen drove away, police said. The man took down her license plate number, police said.
Police identified the Ford and girl, spoke to a parent and the teen turned herself in at headquarters. She was charged with evading responsibility as well as improper parking and violation of a restriction that says a new driver cannot have passengers, police said.
The girl had only had a driver’s license for six months or fewer, police said.
She was released on $50 bond and scheduled to appear March 12 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

Police at 12:27 p.m. on Feb. 26 arrested a Bank Street man after an argument in his home turned physical.
According to police, the 66-year-old man’s wife said he’d struck her and officers arriving on scene saw evidence of swelling on her face. The woman said she had attempted to call 911 but that he took away her cellphone as she attempted to place the call initially, police said.
According to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc of the New Canaan Police Department, a protective order already had been in place, ordering the man to not strike, threaten or harass his wife. That order had been issued in May 2013, police said.
He was charged with third-degree assault, criminal violation of a protective order and interfering with a 911 call.
Police held him on $10,000 bond and he was scheduled to appear Feb. 27 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
