About one-quarter of the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce’s member businesses are independent—small retailers, entrepreneurs and other sole proprietors—and the organization’s leadership continuously looks out for programs to ensure that those members succeed.
Next week, that chamber is offering local independents a tool that’s already proven successful for longstanding New Canaan business owners.
The 2-hour Mastermind Group session led by business coach Rich Gee will be held at 6 p.m. on March 31 at Halo Studios, 45 Grove St. Register here.
“We understand that being an independent or sole proprietor can be a daunting experience and this session really gives people a forum in which to grow their business,” said the chamber’s Laura Budd.
And it does more than that, advocates say.
By connecting like-minded business owners who face similar challenges in the same local markets, Mastermind Groups offer an effective way for participants to share goals and ideas. Those involved in a Mastermind Group serve as a mutual support system, helping and holding accountable those caught in the often overwhelming day-to-day details of operating an independent business.
Beth McCarthy, owner of Aetheria Relaxation Spa, said Mastermind Groups have helped her “focus on what’s truly important.”
“I genuinely don’t think I would’ve made it ten years in business without the support of a mastermind group,” McCarthy said. “I’m happy to sponsor such an important business tool through the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce.”
Tuesday’s session is designed to arm participants with the tools they need to establish their own Mastermind Groups, according to a press release from the chamber.
In addition to the chamber, other sponsors include TD Bank of New Canaan.
TD Bank Store Manager Jenny Esposito said that sponsoring the workshop was a natural fit for the bank.
“TD Bank is happy to help provide an introduction to an innovative tool to inspire entrepreneurs,” Esposito said.
The registration fee for Chamber Members is $50 and $70 for non-members.
