Police cited three Norwalk residents for marijuana possession after stopping their car Friday afternoon on South Avenue for an expired registration.
Two women passengers, ages 25 and 22, were cited for possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana, and one of them additionally was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.
The driver of the 1999 Dodge van, a 24-year-old Norwalk man, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of operating an unregistered vehicle and operating under suspension, according to a police report.
At about 12:46 p.m. on Dec. 12, an officer running radar on South Avenue near Surrey Road found the van’s registration to have expired in November 2013, the report said.
Stopping the southbound vehicle near White Birch Road and approaching it, the officer smelled marijuana and asked who had it, the report said.
One of the women said she did and so did the motorist. A search of the vehicle turned up some pot in a purse belonging to the second passenger, who also had a grinder, the report said.
The motorist is scheduled to appear Dec. 22 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
