Police late Wednesday arrested a 27-year-old New Canaan man and charged him with violating a standing criminal protective order.

At about 9:12 p.m. on Nov. 18, officers received a complaint regarding a domestic dispute that had occurred earlier in the day, according to a police report.

Following an investigation, police took the man into custody at his East Avenue home, the report said.

In addition to the felony offense, he was charged with disorderly conduct.

It wasn’t clear whether or how the man is related to the victim, what are the terms of the order, how he violated it or what prompted police to bring the disorderly charge. Police withheld details, saying it was a domestic matter.

According to Connecticut Judicial Branch records, the same man had been charged in May by Norwalk Police with second-degree threatening. That case is pending, the records show.

New Canaan Police held the man overnight and he was scheduled to appear Tuesday in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
