Battling the heat all week, New Canaan won its first two district games defeating Darien (4-2) and Wilton (4-3). The Rams played a balanced game with strong offense and defense throughout district play. This included a complete game pitched by Lauren Fico which helped propel the team to the championship game.

On Saturday, with an impressive pitching performance by Marissa DelCarmine and an offense led by Lisa Mallozzi and Brianna Healey, the New Canaan Rams 10-U All Star team defeated the Wilton Warriors 8-7 to win the Little League District Championship.

New Canaan, trailing 6-2 in the 5th, got hot with timely at bats by Darian DiMuzio, DelCarmine and Healey. Mallozzi led the scoring charge with a solid hit to right field driving in 3 runs followed by another hit by Penelope Werner to tie the game 6-6.

With a solid defense all around, key plays were recorded by Carthan Connolly, Bianca Formoso, Lily Nicolet and Riley Fortmann to hold off the Warriors in the bottom of the 5th.

Leading off the 6th inning, Julia Fittipaldi walked and then stole two bases. DiMuzio drove in Fittipaldi for the go ahead run. The Rams then added a crucial insurance run to take an 8-6 lead.

The Warriors battled back in their last at bat.  With the tying run on 3rd base and the winning run on 2nd, DelCarmine delivered back to back strikeouts to end the game for an 8-7 NC Rams victory. Due to injury and unable to play, Izzy Kittredge was appointed captain and lead with team spirit and support.

The Rams advance to sectionals with their first round game on July 11th in Orange, CT. Go to newcanaansoftball.com or follow us on Instagram @newcanaansb.
