Police cited a 17-year-old Whiffle Tree Lane girl for passing a school bus at New Canaan High School while it was stopped and with its stop sign extended and lights flashing.

At about 3:48 p.m. on March 31, the teen passed the stopped bus in a Jeep Cherokee, driving northbound in the parking lot behind New Canaan High School (between the library and the woods), according to a police report.

The infraction violation carries a $460 fine.

The bus driver, seeing the Jeep approaching, additionally honked her horn, but the teen didn’t stop, the report said. Police identified the Jeep through video surveillance on the bus, which captured its license plate, the report said.

The teen must pay or plea by April 17.
