On September 22 at 7PM, Special Needs New Canaan will screen “Life Animated,” an award-winning short documentary, that focuses on the life of Owen, a boy with autism, and his parents, who find a new way of communicating with him that changes all of their lives. Based on the best-selling book by Ron Suskind, the film is the inspirational story of Owen Suskind, a three-year-old who suddenly and inexplicably goes silent and for years and remains unable to express thoughts, feelings, or desires. Over time, through repeated viewings of Disney animated classics, Owen finds a way to learn social cues and reconnect with the world around him. Eventually he is able to take his first steps out into life as an independent adult. “Life Animated” was nominated for best short documentary at the 2017 Academy Awards.
