From Devastation to Conservation: Young Pioneer Disaster Response group Speaks at New Canaan Library on Their Efforts in the Philippines

Sunday, April, 9, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

When Typhoon Haiyan made landfall in the Philippines in 2013, it was the strongest storm ever recorded. Join New Canaan Library in welcoming Marshall Meyer, one of the founders of Young Pioneer Disaster Response (YPDR), a group of individuals who had a major impact of the recovery of this region. The event takes place on Sunday, April 9 at 2 p.m. in the Adrian Lamb Room. Please register online at newcanaanlibrary.org.

Typhoon Haiyan and its aftermath exacted a horrific death toll while wreaking structural and environmental devastation across the country. After originally intending to visit the Philippines for only a short time to help rebuild a rural school, Marshall Mayer and the other founders of Young Pioneer Disaster Response stayed to provide emergency and ongoing relief in a hard-hit area mostly ignored by large-scale efforts and the international media. Shortly after founding YPDR, they expanded the scope of their mission to include social and environmental programs that are helping people in the Philippines to this day.
