Mark your Calendars. Common Core, the newly created national education standards, has made local, state and national headlines over the last year, garnering both friends and foes. A local forum, sponsored by the New Canaan Republican Town Committee, will be held to offer residents, parents and taxpayers the opportunity to learn more and ask questions of local and national experts. Jane Robbins, a Senior Fellow with the American Principals Project, and nationally-recognized speaker on this topic, will be featured, and will inform members of the community about the far reaching consequences of Common Core. She will be joined by State Senator Toni Boucher, Education Advocate Maria Naughton and a representative from the Connecticut State Department of Education. The Republican Town Committee will present this Common Core Forum on November 13, 2014 from 7:30 – 9:30. It will be held in the Lamb Room at the New Canaan Public Library. It should prove to be a lively discussion on a hot-button issue.
