Telling your story in a succinct and successful way is a vital skill to learn, and Kimberly Norton, PhD will explain how when she presents her book Story: The Art of Standing Out at New Canaan Library on Monday, January 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Adrian Lamb Room. When trying to get a coveted job, plum promotion or entrance to a top school, the ability to quickly tell your story in a compelling way is a major advantage, and lets one stand out from the competition. However, research indicates that most people are rather poor storytellers. The good news is that there are ways to improve. In her book Story, Kimberly Norton illustrates how to do so, drawing on some of today’s the best storytellers, such as Shonda Rhimes, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Magic Leap, among others.
Kimberly Norton, PhD, is a clinical psychologist specializing in the interface between psychology, business and storytelling. She has evaluated thousands of job applicants and employees, conducted large-scale trauma debriefings, and worked on cold cases with the NYPD, Psychological Services Unit. Dr. Norton focuses on helping clients achieve their desired outcomes through focused, strategic storytelling. She received a BA in Psychology with Honors at Connecticut College, and her PhD in Clinical Psychology with High Honors at Fordham University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences where she was a teaching fellow and Presidential Scholar.
