A New Canaan dog has undergone a two-week quarantine after a biting a man in the leg at a car wash on Vitti Street downtown.

The incident unfolded around 1:30 p.m. on June 4 (a Sunday), according to a New Canaan Police Department case report obtained following a Freedom of Information request.

The Springer spaniel, named Lola, had been leashed and waiting outside the exit area at the New Canaan Car Wash with her owner when a 59-year-old South Salem man walked past, according to the police report.

Lola lunged when he was about three feet away, according to the report, and bit the man on the lower area of his left leg.

“I could see that the bite did break the skin,” the police report said.

The owner “stated that he earlier warned a female employee not to give the dog a treat due to the dog not being friendly and the complainant heard this and was aware,” according to the report.

The victim admitted that he had heard the warning inside, the report said.

Lola didn’t have a collar with her license tag on but police did confirm that the Springer spaniel was registered with the town and received documentation from Norwalk Veterinary Hospital that she was up-to-date on rabies shots, it said.

The man was treated at the scene by medics.

Ultimately, Lola served a 2-week quarantine at a third-party facility—as required by state law for dogs who are off of their own property at the time they bite humans.

The head of NCPD’s Animal Control section confirmed that Lola went to Camp Bow Wow—“a dog boarding and doggy daycare with a social play environment,” according to the Stamford facility’s website—for the two-week quarantine.

Lola was released from quarantine on June 17, police said.

No tickets were issued.
