New Canaan police on Saturday cited two 16-year-old town boys on minor drug charges after they got out of parked cars and entered the woods off of Indian Waters Drive.

A third 16-year-old New Canaan boy was cited for possession of tobacco in the incident, which occurred at about 1:11 p.m. on April 5, according to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, public information officer with the New Canaan Police Department.

Police responded to the area after a neighbor called about suspicious activity, Ogrinc said, with two vehicles parked on the dead-end street. It runs off of Weed, about halfway between Elm and 106.

When police arrived, the boys entered the woods. There, police caught up with them and found a glass pipe and a small amount of marijuana in a tin container, according to the police report. Two of the boys were charged with possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, respectively.

Their cases were referred to the Juvenile Matters Division of state Superior Court in Stamford, where they’re scheduled to appear April 15. The tobacco citation carries a fine which the boy must pay, or plead.
