Fire, police and EMTs with the New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps at about 11:46 a.m. reported to the scene of the accident, where the wrecked car had come to rest up against what remained of the pole.

Just one vehicle was involved and one individual was transported to the hospital, fire officials told NewCanaanite.com.

Police urged motorists to avoid the area and said updates on when the road was reopening would be posted through the NCPD Twitter account.

The accident occurred very close to the multi-car crash that nearly took the life of a young man from Stamford two years ago.
