Letter: In Praise of New Canaan’s Republican Leadership

My name is Paul Gjuraj, and on behalf of my wife, Yolanda, and I, we wanted to take the time to express our gratitude and appreciation for our locally elected officials, particularly in First Selectman Kevin Moynihan and Selectman Nick Williams. As a registered Independent voter, and Yolanda a longtime registered Democrat, we both are very happy with the Republican leadership demonstrated by the first selectman and the selectman.

My wife, Yolanda, and I both have been extremely disappointed with the trajectory of the Democratic party (a party we have both voted for on numerous occasions in the past), particularly with their policies of implementing new taxes and or increasing existing taxes that are bad for residents and small businesses, their push for statewide tolls, irresponsible budget increases, and especially, the disgraceful attempt at forced school regionalization. We greatly appreciate the strong efforts of both Kevin Moynihan and Nick Williams for working with other Republican elected officials to strongly denounce such destructive policies set forth by radical Democrats, who my wife and I feel have hijacked what was once a noble party, and we thank Mr. Moynihan and Williams in their constant aim of keeping New Canaan great.

In addition to the excellent leadership demonstrated by the first selectman and selectman in regard to keeping New Canaan schools the number one ranked in the state, we are also pleased with their leadership in providing sound budget control for the town, responsible financial management, improving cell phone service, increasing commuter parking, the Eversource natural gas expansion, as well as their support of technology enhancements, all of which makes New Canaan a thriving and sustainable community.

Best wishes to these gentlemen in the upcoming election, as we encourage all New Canaan residents, especially those who have enjoyed the privilege of living in this great town for generations, to kindly remember and recognize the leadership in the people who have made this town unique and accomplished. As a former sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, serving four honorable years of active duty service with two tours overseas, I’m confident that I know the kind of leadership needed for success, and those types of leaders and people who have made New Canaan exceptional over the course of many years are exactly what is seen in winners like Kevin Moynihan and Nick Williams.
