To the Editor:

On Sept. 5, our third annual Community Addiction Awareness Vigil will take place in downtown New Canaan (Elm & South). “Helping Each Other to Heal” will again be our theme, as it was last year.

When it comes to alcohol and drugs, we are all in this together.  The goal is to support all those people who struggle—they need our support and encouragement.

The Vigil is an opportunity to remember and pay tribute to those who died too soon, and also to those friends and family members that are also affected.

This Addiction Awareness Vigil is very important to me, since I have lost three family members to this disease. I know that it is possible to recover, because I have not had a drink or drug in 44 years.  For me, the 12 Steps have been an important part of my recovery.  I have learned to cope with problems in life without using alcohol.

So please come to our Vigil at 7 p.m. on Sept. 5, and let’s celebrate life together.
