We are pleased to announce the sale of Gates Restaurant to a privately held restaurant group based in New Canaan. The plan is to keep the ‘Gates’ name and update the interior design and menu offer. We feel good about passing on such an important part of our lives to a locally based group who understands and really cares about the role Gates plays in the community.
We would like to thank the wonderful people of New Canaan for making the past 35 years the most enjoyable experience. We couldn’t have done this without all the love and support we received from the New Canaan families.
As we reflect back on all the good things that have occurred here at Gates, all the celebrations, people meeting, marrying and having children that have grown up to be customers themselves, we also look forward to our retirement with a great appreciation for the kind support we have received for so many years.
We would also like to thank all the wonderful employees we have had over the years who have made Gates so special (especially you Pammy and Sally!).
Thank you for all the wonderful memories and looking forward to all the new memories to come.
Warmest regards,
Jeb Swift and Billy Auer
… and we will comparing menus!
I hope it is up to par with GATES now!?
Enjoy your retirement. Hit a few golf balls and think of Vin. Live life to the fullest–work on that bucket list!!!

Dear Jeb and Billy, we wish you the best of luck knowing New Canaan will miss you all very much. We just moved to North Carolina after a lifetime in New Canaan and have been Gates regulars since you first opened. We have so many fond memories and always delicious meals! Congratulations and the best of luck…. Always, Lois and Dave
our family has eaten at Gates frequently over the last 17 years. Our favorite employee is an older Asian-American man. What will happen for him?
You’re probably talking about Tony Shek. Ask after him if you’re calling into the restaurant, I think that’s your guy.
I just want to send my love from Florida. If it weren’t for you, my parents wouldn’t have met working at Gates, and I wouldn’t be here today. Wish I could have joined my family closing weekend, but I was there in spirit. So many childhood memories growing up a Gates kid.
