Our first selectman candidates and our voters seem to agree on the major issues of the election: limiting spending and taxes, lack of parking, and getting 20th century cell service. Whatever the election’s outcome, I am glad that both of our first selectman candidates will sit on the Board of Selectmen. The question is who will be in the leadership position.
Our infrastructure projects require negotiating with large corporations with bottomless budgets for clever, hardnosed lawyers. Kevin’s professional experience was in dealing with corporations of this heft and power. He has shown with his work to date on cell service, and the natural gas project that he has the judgement and tenacity to succeed on these projects. This is where Kevin’s experience is right on the mark.
Our state is in trouble. We are on fire and the current state administration has not yet pulled the fire alarm. Our local state legislators have been instrumental in passing a budget that finally starts to control spending but was vetoed. New Canaan can help this effort by identifying and quantifying the savings available by the elimination of those state mandates that add little value to us. This is the information that our representatives need to affect the required changes at the state level. Kevin’s support and personal relationship with all of our representatives will amplify our voice to Hartford.
Kevin’s professional experience, personal tenacity, and access to our state legislators merit our vote.
Agree that Kevin Moynihan would make an excellent first selectman. He knows our town’s issues well and has the vision, experience, and tenacity to make things happen. He would be a “doer”—that is what we need in our town government.
