Police cited a 34-year-old Mahopac, N.Y. man before dawn Thursday after the department’s K-9 dog detected a small amount of marijuana in a car during a motor vehicle stop.
At about 2:40 a.m. on Sept. 24, an officer spotted a vehicle traveling south on Route 123 with a registration plate that had expired in April, according to a police report.
The officer pulled the car over near Old Kings Highway and, approaching it, detected an odor of marijuana, the report said.
He deployed Apollo the K-9 dog, who found a small amount of marijuana in the center console of the car and a multi-colored glass smoking pipe, the report said.
The driver was issued an infraction summons for possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
