The following obituary appeared here on legacy.com. Those wishing to leave notes of condolence for the family of the deceased may do so here.

Jay Ross Reader (Hebrew: Aryeh), loving son, grandson and brother, and devoted student of the Torah, passed away on February 19th. He was 20 years old.

Jay is remembered for his wide smile, deep-seeded kindness, and intense love of family and friends. Friends and family remember Jay for his quick wit, sense of humor, and zest for life. Jay’s passions included sports (he loved watching the Redskins and excelled at playing tennis), politics and the financial markets, being with family and friends and studying Torah. Jay attended New Canaan High School, University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), and, most recently, Southern Connecticut State University.

Jay assiduously nurtured his Judaism over the years, and it blossomed while studying with Rabbi Wilhem at Yeshivas Beis Dovid Shlomo in West Haven. Jay deeply enjoyed the Shabbos, when the world slowed down and cell phones turned off, when one’s focus returned to nourishing the soul with a hearty meal, quiet reflection and study, and the company of family and friends.

Jay is survived by his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Reader, of New Canaan, CT; his sister, Ms. Alanna Reader, also of New Canaan; his grandfather, Hyman Reiser, of Newtown, CT; numerous loving, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends across the Tri-State area, including his extended family at Yeshivas Beis Dovid Shlomo. Please send donations in lieu of flowers to Yeshivas Beis Dovid Shlomo, PO Box 26005, West Haven, CT, 06516. Services were entrusted to the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home.
