In the space of three days last week, police twice arrested a 21-year-old man in New Canaan who, after officers stopped his car for improper display of a license plate, was found to have marijuana on him and to be driving with a suspended license both times.
The first incident occurred at about 3:56 p.m. on June 30, when an officer spotted the Stamford motorist traveling north on Park Street with the improperly displayed plate, according to a police report. On speaking with the driver, the officer smelled pot and, following a search of the vehicle, charged him with possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, according to a police report.
He was released after promising to appear July 13 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
Two days later, at 3:53 p.m. on July 2, an officer stopped the same driver and car while traveling south on Ponus Ridge for the same reason. This officer smelled pot and, again, the 21-year-old was charged with possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating with a suspended license and improper display of a license plate.
He was released after promising to appear July 14 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
A front-seat passenger in his car during the second arrest, a 29-year-old Stamford man, was cited for possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana.
