Harvey Lee Kaufman, a longtime New Canaan resident and a practicing architect, passed away suddenly on Dec. 22, 2016.

Harvey was born Aug. 15, 1940 to William (Bill) & Betty Kaufman, in Mt. Vernon, N.Y. He graduated from Port Chester High School, where he excelled academically, artistically and in basketball and baseball.
He chose to attend Cornell University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in architecture and played baseball. While at Cornell, he was actively involved in college life. He joined a fraternity, rowed crew and played baseball. He was one of the best Ivy League Pitchers in his day. He graduated from Cornell in 1963.
Harvey had been a member of the American Institute of Architects since 1967. He worked for many prestigious firms in New York, New Haven and San Francisco before starting his own business in New Canaan in 1981. Among many other professional achievements, he was well known for being the lead architect designing the original “Windows on the World,” the restaurant that was on top of the World Trade Center, while working with Warren Platner Associates.
More importantly, he’s well known for being a professional, generous, gentle and kind person. He’s dearly missed by his colleagues friends and family.
He’s survived by his wife, soul mate and best friend, JP, his children, Jill, Dean, Rachel, Adam and Lauren, nine adoring grandchildren, four loving brothers and their families, and his dog, Miles.
His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the New Canaan Presbyterian Church in New Canaan.
