The New Canaan Kiwanis Club’s popular St. Patrick’s Day dinner is around the corner, scheduled for 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 16 in the St. Aloysius School’s dining hall.
When we heard it was coming, NewCanaanite.com caught up with club member Susan Serven for a quick chat about the event.

A community staple for years, the event features Irish dancing (photo at right from the 2013 event), and is sponsored by New Canaan’s Hoyt Funeral Home, Harrigan’s Insurance (great-looking Labrador retriever pictured on their homepage), Nurenu Marketing, Baskin-Robbins and New Canaan Chamber of Commerce.
New Canaanite: Tell me about the history of this event. How long as it been going on, and how long has Kiwanis partnered with St. Aloysius for the venue?
Susan Serven: The event has been going on for many years. It’s been at St. A’s since 2012 but prior to that was held at many different locations, including various churches in town.

There are so many wonderful community events in New Canaan and each one is special in its own way. Talk a little bit about what makes the annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner special?
Susan: Our event is really one of a kind. There are not many St. Pat’s events available for families with young children, in the area. Our event is very family-focused and casual. We offer kid-friendly food as well as the traditional corned beef and cabbage, with a make-your-own ice cream sundae for dessert. Everyone always loves the Pender-Keady Academy of Irish Dance and the Anam Cara dancers as well.
I’m seeing a number of sponsors and partners behind this. Please tell me what each of them are doing, and how much Kiwanis relies on these fellow local organizations to put on the dinner.
