One of New Canaan’s most popular restaurants is scheduled to reopen this week after more than one year.

Closed for a major remodeling following an upper-story fire in its building last September, Cava Wine Bar & Restaurant will be open for dinner starting Thursday and will open for lunch soon after, said Nube Siguenza, executive chef and owner.

“I am so excited,” she told NewCanaanite.com.

The newly renovated space at 2 Forest St. now includes a bigger bar, private room and wood-fired grill.

“We rebuilt the whole restaurant,” Siguenza said.

She thanked the restaurant’s many local and area customers for their patience and said they’ll find Cava “different and beautiful.”

During a special pre-opening event on Tuesday night, patrons of Cava gave rave reviews.

New Canaanite Ted Nussbaum, a longtime regular at Cava, called Siguenza “amazing.”

“Absolutely the best chef in New Canaan, so anything she opens would be fantastic,” he said, holding a martini at the crowded bar. “The layout is great, it’s a nice updated look but it’s the food that gets you here.”

His favorite dish—a Seafood Pan Roast with scallops, white shrimp, mussels, little neck clams, lobster, tomato and risotto—remains on the menu, Siguenza said.

The restaurant’s menu is largely unchanged, featuring the popular Cava Antipasto, Lobster Mac and Cheese and Charred Octopus as starters, as well as assorted pizzas, Fresh Ricotta Gnocchi, Four Cheese Ravioli, Pappardelle with roasted chicken, wild mushrooms and black truffle oil and Butterfly Veal Milanese.

Cava suffered water damage after an electrical short caused a third-story fire at on Labor Day in 2016, setting off sprinklers. Five businesses in the building were forced to close on in the aftermath of the blaze.
