Police on Sunday night arrested a 32-year-old White Plains, N.Y. man after finding an overly long knife in his car during a traffic stop.
At about 7:09 p.m. on Jan. 28, an officer on patrol clocked a motorist traveling southbound on Old Stamford Road at 45 mph in a 30 mph zone, according to a police report.
During a subsequent stop, the officer saw in plain view on the passenger floor a large black knife with a blade exposed that measured 10 inches in length, the report said.
Under state law, “any knife the edged portion of the blade of which is four inches or more in length” is classified as a weapon in a motor vehicle.
Police charged the man with illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, a felony offense.
He was released on $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 7 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
