Police on Thursday night arrested a 48-year-old Stratford man and charged him with evading responsibility, disorderly conduct and second-degree criminal mischief.

At about 7:27 p.m. on March 29, officers were dispatched to a Main Street home regarding a dispute between the victim who contacted authorities and the man, who had already left, according to a police report.

The man had left in his car and, about 28 minutes later, police were dispatched to Laurel Road near Hidden Meadow Lane on a report of a single-car crash, officials said. According to the report, the vehicle had struck a stone wall and bushes, and the operator fled the scene, police said.

The vehicle involved in the crash was registered to the man involved in the dispute, police said.

Shortly after, police found the man walking on Smith Ridge Road north of Michigan Road, the report said.

He was arrested and held on $2,500 bond, and scheduled to appear Monday in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

It isn’t clear what started the dispute, whether the victim was related to the arrested man or whether it turned physical.

Police withheld further information.

According to the Connecticut Judicial Branch records, the same man had pleaded no contest in 2010 to an evading responsibility charge out of the Bridgeport Police Department.
