Emergency responders on Thursday afternoon rescued an elderly man and his dog after they fell through the ice of a pond on his property, officials said.
At about 2:44 p.m., New Canaan Police received a 911 call from a home on Dan’s Highway regarding an elderly man who had fallen into waist-deep water after attempting to rescue his own dog, who had fallen through the ice, according to a police report.
Police as well as the New Canaan Fire Department and New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded.
The elderly man was pulled from the water and treated by EMTs, the report said. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he had to go to the Emergency Room at Norwalk Hospital.
Both he and the dog are OK, police said.
