Police arrested a 20-year-old Stamford man before dawn on Saturday and charged him with driving under the influence.

At about 2:29 a.m. on May 30, an off-duty Stamford cop found the man asleep in his car in the northbound lane of Ponus Ridge near Jelliff Mill Road, according to a police report.

New Canaan Police arrived on scene and prodded the man awake, the report said. They found a bottle of vodka, three-quarters empty, and the keys to the car had been in the ignition, the report said.

Awakened, the man told police that he’d come from a friend’s house in Greenwich and asked where he was, the report said. He failed field sobriety tests.

The man was released on $250 bond and scheduled to appear June 9 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
