Police arrested a 68-year-old Husted Lane man at 6:04 p.m. on March 5 and charged him with driving under the influence.

The town resident failed field sobriety tests after attempting to exit the Food Emporium parking lot, according to a police report. The tires on his 2010 Mercedes kept spinning on a day that saw New Canaan get about six inches of snow.

Police—dispatched to the parking lot on a report of the driver—approaching his vehicle smelled alcohol on the man, and noticed his bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, the report said.

He was found to be about twice the legal blood-alcohol limit, police said.

He was released on $250 bond and scheduled to appear March 13 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
