Police arrested a 33-year-old Norwalk man before dawn Sunday after he crashed his car on Route 123 near Hoyt Farm Road

He failed field sobriety tests after police found his 2009 Honda Accord crashed over the guardrail on the northbound side of New Norwalk Road.

When police found the motorist, he was slurring his words and officers could smell alcohol, according to a police report. The Norwalk man said that he had intended to drive toward Norwalk but realized he was headed to New Canaan so he “tried to turn around in the fork,” according to a police report.

Route 123 is a straightaway. No other cars were involved in the crash and the driver was not hurt, police said.

He was released on $250 bond and scheduled to appear Oct. 10 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
