Police arrested a Country Club of New Canaan caddy in connection with the June theft of a wallet from a car that had been parked there.

The arrested man, a 22-year-old Wilton resident, confessed to police that he had taken a wallet from another employee’s car parked at the club in June, and also admitted to stealing wallets from cars on three other occasions: two in May 2013 (including from a fellow caddy, and in one case after cash was stolen the theft went ureported) and one from this past May (from a member’s car).

Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said the thefts involved cars parked not at the larger lot near Smith Ridge Road, but at a smaller one down by the tennis courts.

Police tracked him down through surveillance video taken at the Wilton Stop & Shop, where he used the credit card he had stolen in June. He spent $1.05 there, according to police.

Police arrested the man by warrant on Aug. 13 and charged him with three counts each of third-degree burglary, credit card theft and sixth-degree larceny, as well as one count of illegal use of a credit card.

He spent about $221 all told, on June 25, at Vista Market, Ancona’s Liquor in Wilton and the Danbury Mall, police said.

He was released after promising to appear Aug. 25 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
