A New Canaan firefighter sustained a minor injury Saturday evening while fighting a blaze that caused significant damage to a Silver Ridge Road home.

Nobody was home at the time the fire was reported by a passerby at 5 p.m., according to a press release from New Canaan Fire Department Chief Jack Hennessey.

The fire caused significant damage to the first floor of the home at 48 Silver Ridge Road, smoke and heat damage to the second floor and water damage to the basement, according to the press release.

New Canaan Police were first on scene and confirmed there was nobody at home, Hennessey said.

The fire was brought under control with mutual aid assistance from the Norwalk, Wilton and Vista, N.Y. Fire Departments, he said.

The New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the injured firefighter to the Norwalk Hospital Emergency Department, the press release said. He was treated and released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the New Canaan fire marshal’s office and it is not considered suspicious, the chief said.

While New Canaan firefighters fought the blaze, Stamford Fire Department members responded to calls for the town.
