New Canaan Man Arrested for Sending Harassing Emails

Police on Wednesday afternoon arrested a 44-year-old New Canaan man and charged him with second-degree stalking and second-degree harassment. On Wednesday morning, the department received a complaint from the victim who indicated that they received numerous harassing emails from the suspect over the past few weeks that were sexually explicit in nature, police said. Following a subsequent investigation, police took the suspect into custody at his residence on Glen Drive. The suspect is being held on a $200,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Norwalk on Aug. 27.

Two Former New Canaan Public School Employees Arrested for Stealing $478,000 from Cafeterias

Two former employees of New Canaan Public Schools were arrested and charged with first-degree larceny and defrauding a public community over the weekend after a lengthy investigation following a complaint filed by the New Canaan Board of Education, according to a statement released on Monday by New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski. The investigation determined that over a five-year period, $478,588 in cash was allegedly misappropriated by the suspects from the Saxe Middle School and New Canaan High School cafeterias. According to Krolikowski, the suspects are Marie Wilson, 67, of Wilton, and her sister Joanne Pascarelli, 61, of Stratford. Wilson previously served as the assistant food director of New Canaan High School until she was placed on leave in November 2017, while Pascarelli was in charge of the food program at Saxe Middle School until September 2017. Both were the subjects of an internal investigation that was being conducted at the time by the Board of Education.

Bat Found in New Canaan Home Tested Positive for Rabies

A bat captured inside of a home on Tommys Lane on Aug. 1 has tested positive for rabies at the state Laboratory, according to officials in the Animal Control section of the New Canaan Police Department. The residents were advised to seek medical advice while their dog received a rabies booster and is being observed for 45 days. Since July 1, residents reported finding a total of six bats— five of which tested negative, according to Officer Allyson Halm. Five were found in bedrooms, while one was spotted outside within the vicinity of the family’s dog.
