Annunziata Colella, age 66, a resident of New Canaan for over 45 years died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016 at Norwalk Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Annunziata Colella

Born Nov. 5, 1950 in the Marcanise province of Caserta, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Pietro Gaudino and Filomena Musone. She was the wife of Giuseppe (Joe) Colella.

Annunziata, better known as Nunzia or Nancy came to the United States in 1971 and immediately joined her husband Joe at their small business, Joe’s Pizzeria in New Canaan. With her friendly smile and warm personality Nancy easily made friends in her adopted hometown, taught herself English and became an icon of both the pizzeria and the community.

A woman of great kindness and generosity, Nancy was always quick to make a stranger a friend and welcome them to her home and table. Her greatest joy was an evening filled with her family, Scopa (an Italian card game) and plentiful homemade food, lovingly prepared.

She was deeply devoted to her husband and children and lived her life dedicated to their happiness and wellbeing. In her later years, she enjoyed spending summers at the beach in Wildwood, N.J. and playing with her two grandchildren to whom she was a cherished and doting Nonna.

In addition to her husband, Annunziata is survived by her son, Lorenzo (Alissa) Colella of New Canaan, three daughters, Nancy Colella of Norwalk, Filomena (Jeffrey) Faucher of New Canaan, and Serra Colella of Norwalk, two brothers, Francesco Gaudino and Giuseppe Gaudino both of Italy and one sister, Rosalia Abitino of Brooklyn. She was predeceased by a brother, Luca Gaudino.

She is also survived by two grandchildren, Carolyn Faucher and Leo Atenogenes Colella.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016 at 10 a.m. in St Aloysius Church, Cherry Street, New Canaan followed by entombment in Lakeview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan on Monday, Dec. 19, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m.
