Town resident Mike Lupica, award-winning sportswriter, columnist, author and frequent commentator on ESPN’s “The Sports Reporters,” has sold his Bald Hill Road house for about $2.1 million, according to a property transfer recorded June 18 in the Town Clerk’s office.

New Canaan’s Melody Libonati is featured in a Connecticut Magazine story this month by Michael Catarevas that touches on her start in the theater and present-day Performing Arts Conservatory and Summer Theatre of New Canaan.

The owners of a Locust Avenue condominium have filed legal papers to evict a tenant that they say failed to pay $2,100 in monthly rent in April and May. In a formal Answer to the filing, the tenant conceded that rent was late and said, “This delay was due to unique circumstances.”

New Canaan Police Department Chief Leon Krolikowski reported reductions in several areas in tracking year-to-date statistics compared to the same time in 2017, such as DUIs (12 so far this year compared to 16 at the same time last year), employee injuries (5 versus 10), family disputes (19 versus 26) and larcenies from vehicles (7 versus 9). The data was shared at Wednesday’s Police Commission meeting.

The Board of Selectmen voted 3-0 Tuesday to appoint Jim Lisher to the Health and Human Services Commission for a term to expire Dec. 1, 2019 replacing Carlyn Tiefenthaler.

New Canaan Parking Manager Stacy Miltenberg has joined the town’s Traffic Calming Work Group.

The selectmen voted 3-0 to approve funds for the purchase of a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox ($29,611 net cost) and 2018 Chevrolet Traverse ($34,515 net cost) from Karl Chevrolet, through the General Motors National Bid Assistance program. The vehicles are for the town’s public works director and buildings superintendent.

The town on Tuesday issued a demolition permit for the 1928-built Colonial at 534 West Road.

The Country Club of New Canaan as it pursues a major overhaul of its campus on Monday filed building permit applications to renovate the tennis pro shop ($100,000) and put in a new pool house ($3 million), camp pavilion building ($500,000) and additions to the banquet room and club room at the main clubhouse ($10 million). The contractor on the job is Stamford-based AP Construction Company, architect is Rogers McCagg Architects of Norwalk.

Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County is offering two, eight-week bereavement support groups this summer to help individuals cope with loss following the death of a spouse. One support group will meet Wednesday afternoons from 1:30 to 3 p.m. July 11 to Aug. 29. The second support group will meet Thursday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 12 to Aug. 30. They’ll be held at the offices of Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County in Suite 114 at the Health and Wellness Center at I-Park. I-Park is located at 761 Main Avenue (Route 7) on the Norwalk/ Wilton town line.

Good news from the New Canaan Summer All Star baseball teams. The 10u team has made a run through the losers bracket and solidified an invite to the state tournament with a win against Greenwich 2-1 Wednesday night. NC has been hosting these Districts and will host a 9 U event starting on Saturday. The 12u team also played in District Finals on Thursday night and will get a bid to states. This is the organization’s first year registering the 8U team and they start in states July 7.
