Police on Friday night arrested a 46-year-old New Jersey man and charged him with driving under the influence.

At about 9:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on Harrison Avenue on reports of a dispute between the man and another person, police said.

During a subsequent investigation, officers learned that the out-of-state man had driven to New Canaan from New Jersey, according to a police report.

In speaking with him, police could smell alcohol on his breath, it said.

The man failed field sobriety tests and was charged with DUI.

It isn’t clear with whom he’d had a dispute or what it involved.

He was held on $250 bond and scheduled to appear Dec. 20 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
