The town this month issued a building permit for a new 5-bedroom home in the ‘South of the Y’ neighborhood.
Located the 1.11-acre lot at 24 Whiffle Tree Lane, where a 1956-built split-level ranch has stood, the new home will include 4,638 square feet of living space—more than doubling the size of the prior home, according to a permit issued Nov. 10. (A demolition permit application for the existing structure came in last month, building records show.)
The new construction is to include five full bathrooms, two half-baths, a fireplace and finished basement, the permit said.
It is to be built by New Canaan-based Hoffman Contracting LLC for an estimated $806,000, the permit said.

The New Canaan Building Department issued a demo permit for another home in the neighborhood—also a 1956-built split level ranch, at 92 Conrad Road—and has approved construction of a new house on that 1.08-acre lot.
According to a permit issued Nov. 16, the new home will include five bedrooms, three full bathrooms and a half-bath, with a finished attic. It will be built by Fairfield’s Renato Gasparian Associates for about $750,000, the permit said.
The property had been purchased for $1,052,500 in May.
