Police on Friday night arrested a 57-year-old Wilton man and charged him with criminal violation of a restraining order.
At about 10:10 p.m., officers took a complaint from a victim regarding an incident that had occurred earlier in the day, in which the man violated a restraining order, according to a police report.
Following an investigation, police charged the man with the felony offense. They arrested him at home, the report said.
He was released on $10,000 bond and scheduled to appear Monday in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
It isn’t clear whether or how the man is related to the victim, how long or why the restraining order is in place or which of its provisions the arrested party violated. Police withheld further information, classifying it as a domestic matter.
Under state law, a person may be guilty of violating a restraining order if he or she fails to stay away from the intended party, contacts that individual, restrains him or her in some way or “threatens, harasses, assaults, molests, sexually assaults or attacks a person in violation of the order.”
According to Connecticut Judicial Branch records, the arrested man had been charged with disorderly conduct on June 9 by Greenwich Police. A man with the same name filed for divorce last week, the records show.
