New Canaan Public Schools will operate under an early dismissal schedule Wednesday, officials said, as the National Weather Service calls for 12 to 18 more inches of snow.

According to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bryan Luizzi, the dismissal schedule will run as follows:

  • NCHS and Saxe 7th-8th: 11:30 a.m.
  • Saxe 5th-6th: 12:20 p.m.
  • South: 12:15 p.m.
  • West Pre-K: 12:15 p.m.
  • East and West: 1:05 p.m.

The town is under a Winter Storm Warning with “snow this morning” becoming “heavy by afternoon and into the evening,” the weather service said.

“Expect significant reductions in visibility at times. A combination of the heavy snow and wind gusts up to 40 mph could bring down tree limbs and power lines, creating power outages. Travel will be very difficult to impossible, especially during the evening commute.”

Police in a Tweet on Wednesday afternoon urged residents to stay off the roads so that public works officials could do their work.

Metro-North Railroad said it will “operate a reduced weekday schedule with some combined/cancelled trains during peak periods.”

“Conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly during the day,” Metro North said, adding: “In the evening, Metro-North plans to further reduce its service to hourly to ensure customer safety during the storm.”

Eversource reported zero outages in New Canaan as of 5:45 a.m.
