Thanksgiving Day Arrest: New Canaan Woman, 44, Charged with DUI

Police late on Thanksgiving Day arrested a 44-year-old New Canaan woman and charged her with driving under the influence. 

At about 7:56 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in the parking lot at Acme on Elm Street, police said. The report included that the driver could be intoxicated and that the she had left the scene of the crash, police said. Officers traced her license plate to an Oenoke Lane home, and there they saw her getting out of a vehicle, according to a police report. They saw damage consistent with the crash at Acme on her vehicle, the report said. On speaking to the woman, police detected signs of impairment and she failed field sobriety tests, it said.

Police: Former Employee of Local Business Charged with 10 Counts of Forgery

New Canaan Police on Tuesday arrested a 38-year-old Shelton woman by warrant on 10 counts of forgery in connection with the theft of about $5,000 from a local business. On Aug. 20, police received a complaint regarding forged checks at an Oenoke Ridge business, officials said. Investigators established that Rashel Williams, a former employee at the time of the forgeries, was a suspect, according to a police report. Police obtained a warrant for Williams’s arrest on four counts of third-degree larceny, two counts of fifth-degree larceny and four counts of sixth-degree larceny, all misdemeanors.

Assault, Disorderly Charges for New Canaan Man, 20

Police on Tuesday evening arrested a 20-year-old New Canaan man following a domestic incident. At about 5:06 p.m., officers were called to an Avalon Drive East home regarding a dispute between two people there, according to a police report. 

Following an investigation, they charged the man with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. 

It wasn’t clear what the dispute involved, how it turned physical, how the arrested man is related to the victim or what were the extent of injuries. Police declined to provide details, calling it a domestic matter. Under state law, a person is guilty of disorderly conduct when, with intent to cause inconvenience, annoyance or alarm, engages in fighting or in violent, tumultuous or threatening behavior; or by offensive or disorderly conduct, annoys or interferes with another person, among other reasons. A person is guilty of third-degree assault, according to state law, when “with intent to cause physical injury to another person, he causes such injury to such person or to a third person” or “recklessly causes serious physical injury to another person or “with criminal negligence, he causes physical injury to another person by means of a deadly weapon, a dangerous instrument or an electronic defense weapon.”

Police released the man on $1,000 and scheduled him to appear Wednesday in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

Breach of Peace Charge for Millport Avenue Woman

Police on Sept. 30 arrested a 58-year-old Millport Avenue woman following an with a neighbor. 

At about 10:50 p.m. that Monday, officers were dispatched to Millport Apartments on a report of a noise complaint and dispute between the woman and her neighbor, according to police. Following an investigation, police charged her with second-degree breach of peace. It isn’t clear whether the argument turned physical or what kind of language she used that led police to bring the misdemeanor charge. Under state law, a person is guilty of second-degree breach of peace “when, with intent to cause inconvenience, annoyance or alarm, or recklessly creating a risk thereof,” he or she “engages in fighting or in violent, tumultuous or threatening behavior in a public place,” “assaults or strikes another” “threatens to commit any crime against another person or such other person’s property, “publicly exhibits, distributes, posts up or advertises any offensive, indecent or abusive matter concerning any person,” “in a public place, uses abusive or obscene language or makes an obscene gesture” or “creates a public and hazardous or physically offensive condition by any act which such person is not licensed or privileged to do.”

Police released the woman after she promised to appear Oct.

29-Year-Old Man Charged in Connection with Head-On Crash in New Canaan

Police on Sunday charged a 29-year-old Guilford man in connection with a head-on crash on Route 123 earlier this year. At about 6:27 a.m. on May 17, officers investigated a crash at Smith Ridge Road and Glen Drive, according to a police report. The Guilford man, traveling northbound on 123, swerved into the oncoming traffic lane and struck a vehicle, the report said. Investigators determined that he may have fallen asleep while driving and did not recall the crash, it said. He was charged with reckless driving and cited for failure to drive right.
