Police on Monday afternoon brought burglary charges against a 21-year-old Norwalk man after a resident suspicious about his behavior tipped off authorities.
At about 2:34 p.m. on Dec. 21, officers responded to the area of Elm and Park Streets on a complaint of a suspicious person who was looking into vehicles and acting suspiciously, according to a press release issued by Police Chief Leon Krolikowski.
Police located him and an investigation revealed that he intended to enter vehicles downtown to steal from them and also had tried twice to cash a stolen check, the chief said.
He was charged with possession of burglar tools, fifth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, third-degree criminal attempt to commit burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia.
“A resident’s suspicion and our department’s swift and comprehensive response to this incident highlight the professionalism, and devotion to duty our officers display each and every day,” Krolikowski said.
Police found that the man also is wanted by Norwalk Police on drug-related charges, Krolikowski said.
He was held on $10,000 bond and scheduled to appear Tuesday in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
Krolikowski urged residents to phone 9-1-1 and report suspicious people or vehicles, to downtown the “MyPD” app for smartphones and follow the police on Twitter (@newcanaanpolice) for crime alerts.
