An 11-year-golden retriever is under home quarantine on Oenoke Ridge Road after the dog bit a 2-year-old boy in the face, officials say.

It happened shortly before 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, according to a police report. The boy and his parents had come in from out of town to visit relatives, and the child cornered the dog and was tugging on its ear when the golden retriever snapped, according to the report.

The animal had no history of biting and adults were present and watching as the incident unfolded, according to the Animal Control unit of the New Canaan Police Department.

The golden retriever is up-to-date on its vaccines and is undergoing a mandatory 2-week quarantine at home.

The boy was taken to a hospital emergency room for treatment and appears to be OK, police said. He was bitten on his ear, forehead and cheek.

A 2-year-old Labrador retriever mixed-breed dog bit a pool worker on Clearview Lane on the morning of July 30 (last Thursday), according to Animal Control.

Two litter-mates from inside the home where he was working ran outside barking at him and one of them punctured the skin of his thigh, Animal Control Officer Maryann Kleinschmitt said.

Though the wound was closer to a scratch than an actual bite (“He [the dog] was not trying to get the guy,” Kleinschmitt said), the pool company instructed the worker to go to St. Vincent’s Urgent Care in Monroe.

The dog is under a home quarantine for 14 days, Kleinschmitt said.
